"Mother Nature is providential. She gives us twelve years to develop a love for our children before turning them into teenagers."
~William Galvin
This is Faye's Metamorphosis album. the photographs were created over a period of 12 months, showing her transition from child to young woman.
Remember How Much Fun Adolescence Was?
Would you, willingly, and without putting up a fight, go back to your middle school years? I sure wouldn't.
For many children, its a particularly difficult time of life. All the massive changes.
First of all, of course, their bodies are changing. Arms and legs no longer fit or function quite like they used to. There are curves or muscles where they didn't before exist. Hormones start to rage. Even the social structure that they were so comfortable with in their early years is now gone. Friends grow apart, new friends are made.
It's a tough time of adjustment. And it can last quite a while. I remember just starting to really understand who I was finally in college.
When I asked Fay, who you see in the slide show above, how she saw herself, she said
"UNCERTAIN". I really don't know who I am right now."
That's so typical - no longer a child, not yet an adult - the so called "tween". Their whole world is changing.
But, as I talked with her more (yes, we do a design consultation with everyone), it came out that she saw herself as a romantic. She loved to put herself into movies she watched and books she read in the role of a romantic young woman.
But at the same time, she saw herself as a girl with an attitude. So we worked for both.
Faye loved both the experience as well as the results, and in the examples we've posted, you can see both the little girl side, and the "almost a woman" side of her, which is exactly what we were looking for.
Parents frequently have portraits of their children created until they're about five or six, and then don't bet around to it until they're 17, and doing senior pictures.
What a shame that they rely on "school pictures to record this mysterious age. Shouldn't you really have something quality created of them?
